Our pigs "History" haha.
Goldie - our kunekune sow. We got her as an 8 week old piglet from a "hobby breeder". I can't remember how many bro's n sis's she had. But anyway, when we were looking at them, she got through the fence and came to us, and so we chose her. Man it was hard gettin' her back. Next time, when we came to get her, she was soo crafty. We put a blanket on the ground, with an apple core on the corner. She ran up and grabbed the apple core and ran off before we could grab her. In the end, mum caught her... can't remember how. Then she had to run to the gate with a very loud, squealing piglet. She was also being chased by Goldie's mum! On theway back, Goldie showed her disgust at "moving" by letting herself go aall over our car. eww, it stunk. Then when we got back, and she saw our dog, she just froze. She was so naughty. We let her out and went to have lunch, and came back to find a hole under our gate and Goldie running down the road. Arghh! She's so lucky she wasn't run over. Anyway, we got her [much to the amusement of everyone passing], and we locked her up. Course, she got out. But she got better, and at about one year off age she had her first piglets! She has had 4 litters now, and we are probably going to stop. She can be snappy, especially to other animals [comes with red hair, y'know].
Ginger - we got him as whopping big 2 & 1/2 year old. He was so big he was bought in a horse trailor. His first owners had got him as pet for their kid, then got bored of him when he got older, and left him in a muddy pen with no food. Then the people who bred him got him back, but the owners made them buy him back! Geez! After the way they starved him? I wish I could pay them back for that... =\ Anyway, he was in pretty good cond. when we got him, he is such a gentle boy, he never hurts anyone, even with tusks. About the middle of last year, he started losing weight quickly, after he got ringed, his nose was all swollen, and girl thingy. One day I was calling the pigs for food, and Ginger didn't come. I went to find him... He was by our woodpile, and he couldn't stand. He was trying to get up, but his back legs wouldn't work. I fed him, and we called the vet, who couldn't find anything wrong, but suggested putting him to sleep. He's about 7 1/2. In the end, we chose not to, and the vet gave him some antibiotics, n stuff. We had to drag him to the shed on a tarpolan and he made an awful noise. For a week or so, he had to stay in there, with blankets and hot water bottles. I had to hand-feed him... the day I got him up was one of my happiest days. I was soo proud of him. He was still really weak though, and needed lots of help getting up. Now, he can walk fine, but he's still soo skinny... and now we have to sell them, and I'm so worried, how many people would want an old pig that was 3/4 skeleton?
